DEVOTIONAL AND OVER VIEW
OF THE BOOK OF PROVERBS
PROVERBS 1

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” – Proverbs 1:7 (NIV)

Devotional Thought:
Proverbs 1 sets the tone for the entire book by reminding us that true wisdom starts with reverence for God. “The fear of the Lord” doesn’t mean being afraid of Him, but honoring, respecting, and trusting Him above all else. When we acknowledge God as the source of truth, we position ourselves to receive wisdom that leads to life.

The chapter also warns about the dangers of ignoring wisdom—especially when temptation comes from those who lead us away from God’s ways. Solomon urges us not to follow the crowd into sin but to listen for wisdom’s call. God’s voice is always offering direction, correction, and hope—but we must be willing to listen.

Life Application:
Ask yourself: Where am I seeking wisdom? From culture, friends, or social media—or from God? Make a choice today to listen for God’s voice first and let Him shape your decisions.
